Paper quality. Great. I was worried that the notebook would totally tear apart in the shop, but the paper in the notebook pulled up while they are not writing on a normal notepad you might use to school/work. It is definitely a little bit thicker a little bit more substantial paper

The book is laid out very well helps you keep track of your orders. One aspect I like about it as I’ve just started using it is the people that I sit down to talk with automatically get an idea of professionalism and not this is not just my friend building something. It also gives the impression that you’re producing a good product and that you will fall through on what you say you can do. Obviously the book doesn’t help you actually follow through, but it’s the impression.

Bottom line. if you are trying to get going and are looking for a book they can help you track your orders then I would strongly recommend it

The Woodworker Chronicle has been a great addition to my workshop. It helps me stay organized while giving me a dedicated place to document custom projects, especially those that involve some trial and error. Being able to record my processes, settings, lessons learned, and what worked—or didn’t—helps me improve on future builds. More importantly, it keeps me in a professional mindset by encouraging me to document my work and treat each project as a repeatable process rather than just another build. Definitely a useful tool for any serious woodworker. Thanks Matt!!!

I bought The Woodworker’s Chronicle several years ago and actually used the entire book, so I’ve had plenty of time with it rather than just flipping through a few pages. Overall, I think it is a very well-thought-out planner for woodworkers, especially anyone who wants a physical place to keep projects, business information, costs, planning, and notes organized.
The spiral binding is a big plus because the book stays open on the bench or desk while you’re working. I also liked having dedicated areas for project tracking and management, profit and loss information, planning, and woodworking reference material all in one place. For someone starting a woodworking business or trying to become more disciplined about tracking jobs, materials, expenses, and project details, there is a lot of value here.
I completely filled my original copy, so I can definitely say I got my money’s worth out of it. My reason for not purchasing another one isn’t because I think there is anything wrong with the product. My workflow simply changed. Over time, I found that I prefer a more customized system that allows me to organize projects, pricing, labor, materials, content, and business information in my own way rather than following a predetermined planner format.
That is really the only downside I found: because it is designed to work for a broad range of woodworkers, you may find yourself using some sections constantly while other sections don’t fit the way you personally run your shop. That isn’t necessarily a flaw—it just comes down to working style.
For someone who enjoys writing things down and wants a structured woodworking planner without having to design their own system, I would absolutely recommend it. It can be especially useful for newer woodworkers, people beginning to sell their work, or anyone who has project information scattered across notebooks, receipts, and scraps of paper.
I enjoyed mine, used it completely, and think Faith Valley Tools created a genuinely useful woodworking product. I simply reached the point where I needed something more customized to the way I personally work and manage my projects.
Pros: Well organized, useful project and business tracking, convenient spiral binding, good woodworking reference information, and a great way to keep everything together.
Cons: The preset format may eventually feel limiting if you develop your own very specific workflow.
Bottom line: A good woodworking planner that I actually used from beginning to end. I wouldn’t personally buy another because my organizational system has changed, but I would still recommend it to the right woodworker.
